Effective At-Home Treatments For UTIs
If you have ever experienced a urinary tract infection, then you know just how uncomfortable and painful they can be. Because they are so miserable, it is important that you do all that you can to treat them as soon as you realize that you do in fact have an infection. While going to the doctor for UTI treatment and antibiotics is a great way to treat the infection, there are some things that you can do at home to help treat the infection as well. This article will discuss some effective at-home treatments that you can try in conjunction with your antibiotic.
Drink A Lot Of Water
One very simple, yet very effective, at-home remedy to try in conjunction with your antibiotics is to drink plenty of water. When you drink a great deal of water, you allow your body to flush out different toxins that are potentially harmful to it. This can help to flush out the bacteria that is causing the UTI, allowing your antibiotic to be as successful as possible.
Use A Hot Pad
When you have a UTI, it is no secret that you are going to feel pain in your urinary tract. You may feel itching or burning or some other form of discomfort. A great way to try and combat this discomfort is to place a hot pad over your pelvis and get up off of your feet. The heat can have a soothing effect on this region of your body and can give you some relief from the pain as your antibiotic fights to kill the infection. Also, if you feel that using the heat pad consistently is too much for you, then you can rotate between icing the area and then using the hot pad.
Go To The Bathroom Often
When you have a UTI, you often feel the need to go to the bathroom much more than normal. This is your body's natural way of trying to flush out the toxins in your urinary tract. Because of this, it is important that you go to the bathroom whenever you feel the slightest urge to urinate. This will help to work the infection out of your track at a faster rate and will work in conjunction with your antibiotics to get your urinary tract back to normal and free of the itching and burning that you are experiencing as part of the infection.
