About Me

The Magic of Massage Therapy

I was going through intense physical therapy to recover after surgery, and every day I went to bed with sore, achy muscles. Finally, my physical therapist suggest I give massage therapy a try. Massage therapy really helped me relax and unwind after a hard day at physical therapy, but I think it also helped speed my recovery. It helped with blood flow and circulation, and I really felt much better after every session. I liked it so much that I kept going even after I was fully recovered. I started this blog to talk about the magic of massage therapy. It really helped me, and I believe that it can really help others as well. If you’ve been wanting to learn what massage therapy is like and how it helps, you’ll find the answers here on my blog.

Laser Varicose Vein Procedure: What To Expect

Varicose veins are large, discolored veins that are typically found in the upper legs. These types of veins are not uncommon, and in some cases, they can be treated with lifestyle changes and by wearing compression stockings. However, when varicose veins become very painful or put you at a high risk of developing blood clots, there is a good chance that your doctor will recommend a much more aggressive form of treatment. One of the more popular forms of treatment is a laser varicose vein procedure. Continue reading to learn more about what to expect if your doctor has recommended that you have a laser varicose vein procedure performed:

Procedure Prep

For many years, treating large varicose veins involved surgery under general anesthesia. A laser varicose vein procedure is much different, and no general anesthesia is required. The procedure is typically performed either in a hospital or surgical center, and prior to the start of the procedure, the area where the the catheter holding the laser fiber is inserted into the vein will be numbed with local anesthesia. Your doctor may also give you a light sedative to help you feel more comfortable while the laser varicose vein procedure is performed.

Recovery

One of the great things about a laser varicose vein procedure is the fact that the recovery time is typically quite short. After the procedure is completed, you should not have any difficulty walking on your own. Most patients do not need to take an extended amount of time off work, and you will most likely be able to resume your normal activities shortly after. The recovery period from a laser varicose vein procedure is usually not painful, but it is possible to feel a slight burning or prickling sensation in your legs. Your doctor will most likely tell you to wear compression stockings for several days after your procedure—it is important to do so in order to help prevent complications.

Follow Up

Your doctor will schedule a follow up appointment for you in the weeks following your laser varicose vein procedure. It is essential to attend the follow up appointment, so make sure that you clear your schedule so you can be there. During your follow-up appointment, your doctor will do an ultrasound on your legs to determine if the laser procedure successfully closed the varicose veins. Laser varicose vein procedures are quite effective, and the majority of patients only need one treatment to successfully treat severe varicose veins.
